Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has predicted heavy rainfall in the State this week.

According to a press release issued by NSDMA, the State will not only witness heavy rains and strong winds, but there is also the possibility of flash floods and mud slides and landslides. Lightning strikes would also be a common feature during this time, while the showers were expected to continue until July 14, it added. 

NSDMA has warned that the northern half of Nagaland would be more vulnerable than the southern half, adding there was a bigger risk in places like Mon, Tizit, Tuli, Longleng, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Wokha and Bhandari.

All the district disaster management authorities (DDMAs) and other line departments responsible for attending to any emergencies caused by natural calamities have been asked to be on alert to save lives and properties during this period.

NSDMA has also urged people to be vigilant during this pre-monsoon period from lightning, gusty winds and thunderstorms. It appealed to the public not to take shelter under large trees and near river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to their lives from lightning and flash floods.
