Right to Information (RTI)

The Right to Information Act, 2005 enables citizens of India to request information held by a public authority, subject to the provisions and exemptions of the Act.

Submitting an RTI request to NSDMA

An application seeking records held by NSDMA may be made on plain paper in English, Hindi or a local language and addressed to:

What to include

Your name and complete contact or postal address.
A clear and specific description of the information or records required.
The relevant subject, location and period of the records.
The preferred form of access, inspection or copies, where applicable.
The prescribed application fee or valid proof of Below Poverty Line status.

An applicant is not required to give a reason for requesting information.

Fees

Nagaland RTI guidance specifies a basic application fee of ₹10, payable through an accepted mode such as cash against receipt, demand draft or banker’s cheque. Additional charges may apply for copies, electronic media, samples or extended inspection of records. Applicants below the poverty line are exempt from fees when valid supporting proof is provided.

Response and appeals

Information is ordinarily provided within 30 days of receipt by the appropriate public authority. Information concerning the life or liberty of a person is subject to the shorter period specified by the RTI Act. If no decision is received within the applicable period, or the applicant is dissatisfied with a decision, a first appeal may be submitted to the designated First Appellate Authority. A further appeal or complaint may be made to the Nagaland Information Commission in accordance with the Act.
